I-275 detours in place tonight

The exit ramp to Ashley Drive will be closed tonight and tomorrow between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. because of construction on northbound Interstate 275.

The left side of the ramp, to Scott and Tampa streets, will remain open however.

Motorists can still get to Ashley Drive by taking the Scott Street ramp to Tampa Street, and then doubling back by taking Tyler Street.

Bridge at 40th Street to open today

The new bridge at 40th Street and Lake Shore Drive is set to open today after a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Mayor Pam Iorio. The ceremony was set for 10 a.m.

Traffic will be shifted to the new two-lane bridge so that the old bridge can be demolished and the final two lanes of the new bridge can be constructed.

The project is part of a $25 million reconstruction and widening of 40th Street from Hanna Avenue to Hanlon Street. The project is expected to be finished by October.

Oil hits all-time high

“Not only are we in the beginning of the annual spring gasoline ramp-up, we’re still seeing a U.S. dollar that is substantially devalued against the Euro, which just encourages the rally to crude oil to continue,” said Randy Bly, a spokesman for AAA Auto Club South, based in Tampa.

On Friday, crude oil was selling for $105.15 a barrel, an all-time high.

A gallon of regular unleaded costs $3.27 a gallon on average in Florida. That’s 2 cents higher than the week before.
