A Rare Dining Out Experience

I actually went out to eat today, at a real restaurant, with utensils and everything!

I met my cousin at the Pink Flamingo Cafe on Davis Island.

What could have been a pleasant experience was marred by the next booth over and their brood of bratty kids. Between these two ladies they had five of them and not a single one was quiet and well-behaved, except maybe the infant that wasn’t old enough to be “bad.” And each was trying to be heard over the next.

Every time I would turn to look at what all the racket was, one of the mothers would notice and make some weak threat that she never carried out. Apparently the kids were on to this pattern because they never shut up the entire meal.

I am not anti-kid, in fact, I have two of my own. But when they were young we had a rule that at restaurants you do not disturb the other people. Period.

But I may be among the minority that teaches this courtesy. Shame.

I did have a nice grilled island club and onion rings, though! But they would have been enjoyed more while eaten at my desk ...

I am with you on teaching kids how to behave in public.  I have two of my own and if they can’t, we go to the bathroom or outside and have a meeting of the minds where we don’t disturb the rest of the patrons.  Sitting near bratty kids does spoil the expeprience, whether it be eating out, a movie, or whatever.  And with prices being what they are these days, you want to enjoy your money’s worth.
